DESCRIPTION: Height up to 35cm.  A stunning plant but one of a group of very difficult species to identify. The flowers, borne on leafy spikes, are usually white, or can be partly lilac, with a 3-lobed lower lip that is purple veined and with an egg yellow spot in the centre. The leaves are more or less oval, markedly toothed and dark green on the upper surface and paler below. The stem is somewhat purplish. DISTRIBUTION: Widespread throughout. HABITAT: Primarily dry grassland, dunes, heaths and woodland rides and clearings. FLOWERING TIME: June to September.
