ADULT: 8 - 10mm in length the body is a patterned mixture of blacks and creamy whites on a ground colour of purplish-brown. The legs are paler and covered in occasional dark hairs. BEHAVIOUR: Spins an orb web within grass, gorse or heather. HABITAT: Southern Britain. DISTRIBUTION: Open grassland and coastal grassland. PERIOD: Mainly summer and autumn.
