DESCRIPTION: The two narrow black bands against a
yellowy-orange background on abdominal segments 3 and 4 are the key
identification feature of this common hoverfly. BEHAVIOUR: Hovering in between quick darting motions
around flowers. DISTRIBUTION: Common throughout the whole of Britain. HABITAT: Woodland rides, parks and gardens.
Can be found swarming in coastal areas after migrating. PERIOD: Late March to early September. |
