DESCRIPTION: A shiny black, cylindrical beetle with the
male having a prominent rhinoceros-like horn on the front of the
head. Female just has a small knob-like projection. BEHAVIOUR: No distinct pattern. DISTRIBUTION: Widely distributed throughout. HABITAT: In woodland areas where it feeds on
sap. Breeds in rotten tree stumps and has a preference for beech. PERIOD: May to August. |
