DESCRIPTION: Body length 4mm to 9mm, wingspan up to 20mm.  Also known as The Yellow Sedge Caddis Fly these medium sized insects are quite attractively marked with the wings a mottled montage of light brown, yellow and black. BEHAVIOUR: The aquatic stages can be found mainly in small rivers in uplands, in brooks and rivulets and in stony streams, often with rapids. DISTRIBUTION: Frequent in Scotland and Wales and in western England. Scarce in lower Eastern England.  HABITAT: Riversides, streams and nearby woodland edges. PERIOD: On the wing from February to October.
