DESCRIPTION: A flightless beetle that is strongly domed and smooth. The elytra are fused together and it is one of the largest of the leaf beetles. When handled it will emit a drop of red liquid which is particularly alarming to birds. BEHAVIOUR: A slow moving beetle usually found walking over grass. Easily caught. DISTRIBUTION: Mainly Southern England. HABITAT: Grassland, coastal grassy cliffs and heathland. PERIOD: April to September.
