FRUIT BODY: Up to 10cm wide (per fruit body). A surface feeding fungus with a flattened fruiting body that has low perithecial mounds, greyish rigs around the ostioles and an overall purplish-brown appearance when mature. The entire stromatal surface is surrounding by a black margin. GILLS/PORES: N/A. FLESH: Tough and orange-brown. SPORES: Dark brown, almond-shaped 10-13 x 4-6µm. HABITAT: An encrusting fungus found on rotting twigs and branches of Ash and sometimes found on Alnus. SEASON: Common.  Throughout the year. EDIBILITY: Inedible.
