FRUIT BODY: Up to 30cm across this species is one of several lookalikes (or forms if you prefer) and is a shiny black, spreading jelly mass that is brain-like in appearance and less truncated than its close relative E. glandulosa. The margins are free and the fuitbody is only attached to the substrate by its central area.   GILLS/PORES: N/A. FLESH: Black and gelatinous. SPORES: Allantoid, smooth, 14-19 * 4.5-5.5. HABITAT: On dead and decaying wood of deciduous trees. SEASON: Uncommon.  Throughout the year. EDIBILITY: Inedible.
