4th December 2016 - Delamere Forest, Cheshire - A meet-up with some peeps and a wander. 2nd December 2016 - River Mersey, Stockport, Cheshire - Walking home and 3 fungi species were noted down by the river. Lachnum apalum; Clypeosphaeria mamillana and Terana caerulea were the species scoped and named.

20th November 2014 - Romiley, Stockport, Cheshire - 2 years ago on the 12th of November (see sightings 2014) me and my good lady popped into a Garden Centre and clocked up a neat list on a small bit of grass that was surrounding the car park. After today's walk we went back, my missus stopped in the car whilst myself and 2 keen group members came for a peek. 29 species in 30 minutes and a few different to last time, oh I do like these obscure spots and it highlights again, fungi are everywhere. 16th November 2016 - River Mersey, Stockport, Cheshire - Walking home and looking at a small stretch of pathside near the river. Hypholoma fasciculare; Clitocybe nebularis; Xylaria hypoxylon; Byssomerulius corium; Chondrostereum purpureum; Tubaria dispersa; Laccaria laccata; Rhytisma acerinum; Rhopographus filicinus; Cuphophyllus virgineus; Puccinia veronicae and Mycena filopes were the few straws clutched at.
13th November 2016 - Conwy RSPB, Conwy - Whilst doing a spot of birding we saw:- Rhytisma acerinum; Hygrocybe conica; Lepista sordida; Cuphophyllus virgineus; Geoglossum cookeanum and Uromyces geranii.

13th November 2016 - Bodnant Gardens, Conwy - Myself and my good lady decided to do a reccie visit in anticipation of a walk next year and so wandered for a couple of hours and knocked up a small list of species. The main idea of the visit was to get to grips with the area and see what the possible best places will be for fruiting bodies. 6th November 2016 - Consall NR, Staffordshire - The last public walk of 2016 and a lovely bunch of folk wandered along and helped towards a list of 100 species identified. 31st October 2016 - Cheadle Cemetary, Stockport, Cheshire - Hanging around a graveyard on Halloween seems most apt although my brief mooch was done in the daytime and in no way was meant to scare anyone. The species seen were few but if I am passing in future I may as well pop in. 29th October 2016 - Mere Sands Wood, Lancashire - One of the nicest places we visit due to its calming nature and subtle offering of many natural wonders. 15th October 2016 - Formby NT, Lancashire - A full house today with conditions starting dull and dreary and ending up warm and sunny. 12th October 2016 - Heaton Mersey, Stockport, Cheshire - Loreleia postii was added to the year list as I spotted it growing on some liverwort (Marchantia polymorpha) on the way home.
10th October 2016 - River Mersey, Stockport, Cheshire - A walk into town and a very nice find was the small ascomycete Pulvinula constellatio. It was growing on the path side in sandy soil. After research and microscopy an identification was had. Also seen were a few specimens of Paxillus involutus and a couple of freshly emerging Coprinus comatus.

9th October 2016 - Arley Hall, Cheshire - A brace of walks today for the fine folk of Arley Hall and, as is the norm at these annual events, the sun was glorious and the temperature set to level 'perfect'. Everytime I turn up for these walks it is glorious weather which is all fine and dandy but does usually mean that things are somewhat dried up. 8th October 2016 - Knott Hill NR, G. Manchester - A second mooch of the day with the first area too dry. The same state of play was had here with a list of 18 species knocked up in a hours walk. 8th October 2016 - Eastwood CP, Stalybridge, G. Manchester - A walk with Guy from The Johnny Squizzercrow Experiment produced 23 fungi and was nice and chilled throughout. 5th October 2016 - Heaton Mersey, Stockport, Cheshire - 44 specimens of Amanita muscaria were coming through at the side of the main road, 3 specimens of Xerocomus rubellus were noted too and one lone example of Leccinum scabrum had been kicked over.  Two fruiting bodies of Agaricus arvensis were at completely different stages!  How long these things will last is anyone's guess with peoples phobia and destructive ways plus the council's routine of mowing everything in sight obvious factors to consider.
2nd October 2016 - Alexander Park, Stockport, Cheshire - Dropping off the hire car meant a 2 mile walk home, we popped through a local park and saw:- Trametes gibbosa; Puccinia malvacearum; Puccinia lagenophorae; Rhytisma acerinum; Hypholoma fasciculare; Coprinopsis lagopus; Gymnopus confluens; Scleroderma verrucosum; Stereum hirsutum; Trametes versicolor and Meripilus giganteus.
2nd October 2016 - Marshall Arms NR, Cheshire - A lovely morning with the sun in all its glory and the company glorious too. We arrived in our hire car, had a quick reccie and awaited the guests. 13 of us set off and built up a list of 69 species during a relaxed walk. 1st October 2016 - Little Budworth, Cheshire - The busiest time of the year with loads of mushroom walks and gigs to sort, attend and lead - and so when the car wouldn't start in the morning it was not the way to begin the mad rush. A neighbour tried jump leads, no joy, we were stuck! The only solution was to a hire car and so after a 2 mile march, a 20 minute wait and a £55 payment we set off to our destination to arrive 45 minutes late and with the group already gone - what to do? Hey ho, why not just go for a stroll and see what we can see? So that is what we did - and then it started raining - what a twat! I don't mind a soaking though so onwards and sideways. 28th September 2016 - Etherow CP, Cheshire - An early morning walk and a real struggle to fing any fungus at all. I stuck at it and although the numbers were low I managed to identify a respectable 96 species. 18th September 2016 - Anderton NR, Cheshire - 9 of us set off on a fungal walk in conditions that were way too dry for the mycological season. We cracked on and the company was grand but the fruiting bodies just wouldn't play ball and the end list was a struggle to compile. A few good things were noted though and all went away happy (very kind). 15th September 2016 - Heaton Moor, Stockport, Cheshire - Nigroporus durus and Agrocybe erebia were nice to discover in my dinner break and Conocybe apala, Amanita rubescens and Hypomyces chrysospermus added to the interest.

24th August 2016 - River Mersey, Stockport, Cheshire - Over 1000 specimens of the Bird's Nest Fungus (Cyathus striatus) and a single stocky example of Leccinum versipelle were seen whilst walking to and from Stockport.

18th July 2016 - Chadkirk Chapel, Stockport, Cheshire - A stroll looking at a bit of everything and along the way a few fungi were noted. Associated with Fagus were:- Pluteus nanus; Abortiporus biennis; Inocybe asterospora; Amanita fulva; Hypoxylon fragiforme; Kretzschmaria deusta; Pleurotus ostreatus; Datronia mollis; Trametes versicolor; Ganoderma australe; Trametes gibbosa and Stereum hirsutum. Puccinia veronicae was on Wood Speedwell; Daedaleopsis confragosa on Salix and the myxo Fuligo septica on rotten wood.
16th July 2014 - Greenfields NR, Cheshire - A pop in and a wander around to see what we could see. A few fungi were noted, some, as per, named after microscopy. 10th July 2016 - Ainsdale Sands, Lancashire - 3 fungi seen, one a mega rarity found after a tip off, Chrysomyxa pirolata on the leaves of Pyrola rotundifolia subsp. maritima, the other the more commonly seen Psathyrella ammophila which was in good numbers and a lone specimen of Hygrocybe conicoides with its long spores.

3rd July 2016 - Lifeboat Road, Formby, Lancashire - Puccinia punctiformis; Marasmius oreades; Taphrina alni; Lycoperdon pratense; Microbotryum lychnidis-dioicae and Microbotryum violaceum were all added to a botanical day out.

30th June 2016 - Salthill Quarry, Lanchashire - Synchytrium taraxaci was noted whilst looking at flowers.
28th June 2016 - Heaton Moor, Stockport, Cheshire - The damp weather has encouraged 2 specimens of Hygrocybe conica to appear in the lawn outside work.
27th June 2016 - River Mersey, Stockport, Cheshire - During a botanical walk I spotted Rickenella swartzii and Rickenella fibula growing side by side in a lawn, a nice ring of Marsmius oreades, some scattered specimens of Bolbitius titubans, a small troop of Agaricus bitorquis and a collection of Inocybe fuscomarginata with mixed trees.

25 June 2016 - Fletcher Moss, Greater Manchester - A 2 hour wander and a few fungal species seen. 19th June 2016 - Lathkill Dale, Derbyshire - Whilst looking for flowers we noted Hypholoma fasciculare and Coprinopsis lagopus on woodchip; Coprinellus disseminatus on a mossy tree trunk and Pleurotus ostretus on the same substrate.
19th June 2016 - Hopton Quarry, Derbyshire - Puccinia poarum; Coprinellus disseminatus and Xylaria longipes were the fungi noted.
18th January 2016 - Chorlton WP, G. Manchester - Puccinia pulverulenta and Melampsorella symphyti were the only 2 micro fungi spotted whilst looking for bugs.
17th June 2016 - Gatley Carrs, Stockport, Cheshire - I shall start to slowly get my eye back in with fungi prior to the season, nothing rushed but just concentrate and seeing the odd thing again. Puccinia aegopodii and Pasthyrella candolleana were the first refreshers to get back in the noggin alongside all the recent bugs, blooms, birds and other bits.

31st January 2016 - Deep Hayes CP, Staffordshire - On our way to today's destination we stopped off at a new group members residence and had a look at Cobalt Crust (Terana caerulea) which was a new one for us (thank you Lynne Healey), note was made also of a crop of Geastrum triplex and Resupinatus trichotus. At our destination we manged to see 31 species, these were:- Phragmidium violaceum; Bisporella citrina; Sarcoscypha austriaca; Ascocoryne sarcoides; Crepidotus cesatii; Panellus stipticus; Phellinus igniarius; Taphrina betulina; Ganoderma australe; Bjerkandera adusta; Chondrostereum purpureum; Xylaria carpophila; Auricularia auricula-judae; Nectria cinnabarina; Trametes versicolor; Rhopographus filicinus; Hypoxylon fragiforme; Hypocrea pulvinata; Piptoporus betulinus; Vuilleminia coryli; Trichoderma viride; Hyphodontia sambuci; Stereum gausapatum; Trochila ilicina; Schizopora paradoxa; Datronia mollis; Flammulina velutipes; Stereum hirsutum; Daedaleopsis confragosa; Lycoperdon pyriforme; Peniophora quercina and Vuilleminia comedens.

2 lichenicolous fungi were noted on Xanthoria parietina, these being - Xanthoriicola physcia and Lichenoconium xanthoriae.

26th January 2016 - Heaton Moor, Stockport, Cheshire - Melampsora euphorbiae was seen whilst on a dinner time stroll.
24th January 2016 - Newchurch Common, Cheshire - More birding today but a few fungi noted:- Chaetosphaerella phaeostroma; Postia subcaesia; Byssomerulius corium; Coprinellus micaceus; Sarcoscypha austriaca; Piptoporus betulinus; Flammulina velutipes; Stereum hirsutum; Trametes versicolor; Xylaria hypoxylon; Daedaleopsis confragosa; Clavulina rugosa; Vuilleminia comedens; Cylindrobasidium laeve and Taphrina betulina.
17th January 2016 - Point of Ayr, Flintshire - Puccinia smyrnii was frequent on its host, Alexanders.
17th January 2016 - Coed Y Felin, Flintshire - A reccie at this new area and a note taken of the layout. A few fungi were seen along the way although more could have been found with a little effort. 10th January 2016 - Chadkirk Chapel, Stockport, Cheshire - A local walk after a morn of tasks. A few fungi were noted the best of which were:- Hericium erinaceus; Ganoderma applanatum; Lachnum brevipilosum; Calyptella capula; Xylaria carpophila; Hypocrea pulvinata; Neobulgaria pura; Trichoderma viride; Crepidotus mollis; Leptosphaeria doliolum; Bisporella citrina; Calloria neglecta and Gnomonia cerastis.

Thanks to assistance on Facebook via Mark Pragnell (cheers sir) the myxo Diderma hemisphaericum was later confirmed.

9th January 2016 - Festival Park, Lancashire - Another batch of Coprinopsis atramentaria indicated that the fungi just don't know where they are at with this odd weather. Coprinellus disseminatus and Arrhenia retiruga were nice extras.
9th January 2016 - Otterspool NR and promenade, Lancashire - A bracing stride out with Leratiomyces ceres; Phlebia radiata; Coprinopsis atramentaria; Ramaria stricta and Agaricus bisporus all of interest.
9th January 2016 - Sefton Park, Lancashire - A morning stroll and a few birds and a few fungi seen. On the myco front we saw:- Exidia nucleata; Stereum hirsutum; Ganoderma australe; Chondrostereum purpureum; Auricularia auricula-judae; Xylaria carpophila; Trametes versicolor; Hypoxylon fragiforme; Lactarius blennius; Rhytisma acerinum and Clitocybe fragrans.
8th January 2016 - Heaton Moor, Stockport, Cheshire - After a pre-op appointment in Manchester I got the train back to work. On the way I noted Clavulinopsis luteoalba; Clavaria falcata; Hygrocybe reidii and Hygrocybe chlorophana.
7th January 2016 - Heaton Moor NR and area, Stockport, Cheshire - A few fungi seen and several new for the year's tally:- Cuphophyllus pratensis; Cuphophyllus virgineus; Rickenella fibula; Gliophorus psittacinus; Geastrum triplex; Flammulina velutipes; Geoglossum fallax and Lepista flaccida.

5th January 2016 - Bruntwood Park, Stockport, Cheshire - Lots to do, all those pesky chores that mount up so it was another local wander to keep the blood circulating and the noggin enthused. Only 19 species seen today, these being:- Stereum gausapatum; Stereum sanguinolentum; Stereum hirsutum; Sarcomyxa serotina; Ganoderma australe; Bjerkandera adusta; Gymnopilus penetrans; Trametes gibbosa; Rhytisma acerinum; Heterobasidion annosum; Auricularia auricula-judae; Nectria cinnabarina; Trametes versicolor; Hyphodontia sambuci; Dacrymyces stillatus; Exidia glandulosa; Ascocoryne cylichnium; Crepidotus cesatii and Xylaria hypoxylon.

Just outside the park about 200 metres along the road a troop of Tricholoma scalpturatum were seen beneath a Silver Birch.

4th January 2016 - Abney Hall, Stockport, Cheshire - The first mooch of the year around this local area and still a few fungi to see. 3rd January 2016 - Chorlton WP, G. Manchester - More birding, this time in bilge weather but a few fungi were still noted:- Lyophyllum decastes; Lepiota cristata; Geastrum triplex; Calyptella capula; Cuphophyllus virgineus; Hygrocybe conica; Pleurotus ostreatus; Sarcoscypha austriaca; Crepidotus cesatii; Scutellinia scutellata and Auricularia mesenterica.
2nd January 2016 - Cheadle Heath to River Mersey, Cheshire - A few fungi noted after my run down river. Hygrocybe reidii; Chondrostereum purpureum; Daldinia concentrica; Daldinia fissa; Phragmidium violaceum; Puccinia arenariae; Uromyces viciae-fabae and Tubaria furfuracea are unsurprisingly new year sightings - well tis only the second of the month tha' knows.

1st January 2016 - Nostell Priory NT, W. Yorkshire - And finally, for this opening day of the year, a walk around this National Trust area on the lookout for basically anything. Fungi noted were:- Crepidotus cesatii; Crepidotus epibryus; Ascocoryne cylichnium; Ascocoryne sarcoides; Exidia glandulosa; Pluteus cervinus; Stereum hirsutum; Xylaria hypoxylon; Vuilleminia comedens; Trametes gibbosa; Schizopora paradoxa; Pholiota squarrosa; Lepista nuda; Rhodocollybia butyracea; Exidia thuretiana; Trametes versicolor; Stereum rameale; Nectria cinnabarina; Auricularia auricula-judae; Coprinellus micaceus; Dacrymyces stillatus; Ganoderma applanatum and Stereum gausapatum.

The bracket Ganoderma applanatum did cause me some confusion has there was one or two larger spores in the mix but in general spores where of the 8.5 to 9µm range and the flesh was thinner than the spore producing tubes. Add to this the presence of the gall Agathomyia wankowiczii and I am happy with the end identification.

1st January 2016 - Walton Colliery Nature Park, W. Yorkshire - The second stop off of the day and a 3.3km walk looking for yet more bird life. One fungus was found, namely Tremella aurantia.
