DESCRIPTION: Up to 40mm. A stunning caterpillar usually seen more frequently than the adult. With a black ground colour along the back and grey at the sides, the rows of red-orange longitudinal dots along the flanks, numerous tufts of long hair, 4 prominent yellow toothbrush tufts on the back and the long black brush antennae at the front this is an unmistakable find in the field. FOODPLANT: Feeds on a wide array of deciduous trees and shrubs including oak, lime, hawthorn and various fruit trees. SEASON: May to August.
