ADULT: Wingspan up to 45mm.  The forewings of this subtle moth are light to dark buff grey and contain a variable amount of darker markings. The fascia is dark and there is a pale postdiscal crossline. LARVAE: The greyish larva feeds on the foliage of many different woody plants such as Ash, Birch, Alder Buckthorn, Sycamore and Honeysuckle. It is also known as a 'Saddleback Looper'. BEHAVIOUR: The adult moth is attracted to light. HABITAT: Gardens, woodlands, hedgerows and parkland. FLIGHT PERIOD: Flying in April and May. STATUS: This species is common in England and Wales, less so in Scotland and Ireland.
