ADULT: Wingspan 19 - 22mm. The combination of white spoyyed balck wings, the orange tufts of hair just behind either side of the head and its day flying habit make this an unmistakable pyralid. CHRYSALIS: An oval, yellowish cocoon. LARVA: Located within silky veil feeding on the leaves of Goldenrod and Dyers Greenweed. BEHAVIOUR: Dayflying species with a peculiar spinning style when in flight. HABITAT: Open woodland and nearby hedgerows. Prefers limestone areas. FLIGHT PERIOD: Single brooded. May to July. STATUS: Resident. Localised throughout. |
