DESCRIPTION: Carapace length can be up to 18cm and is
wider at the rear than the front. The edges are spiny and the
upper surface is also covered with smaller spines and bristles that
various weeds are attached to so as to aid camouflage. All legs
are bristly except the slightly elongated front pair. The overall
colouring of this remarkable creature is of a reddish-orange to reddish-brown. DISTRIBUTION: All coasts. HABITAT: On lower shore on sand among rocks. BEST TIME TO SEE: All year round. |
