DESCRIPTION: A fungal plant pathogen that causes the distinct red or green tongue-like growths that are smooth with rounded edges and a somewhat broadly grooved upper surface. The gall is known as a 'Languet'.
The galls are persistent and eventually turn brownish-black and can be found in this stage throughout the winter months. DISTRIBUTION: Occasional becoming more widespread. HABITAT: On the female cones of Alder arising from the ovarian tissue. Usually near damp areas.
