FRUIT BODY: 3-8cm wide. Brain-like mass of gelatinous yellow that starts off more disc-like in appearance. Best sought for in wet weather as in dry conditions it reduces considerably in size and appears as a thin rubbery patch. GILLS/PORES: N/A. FLESH: Soft, gelatinous, no distinct taste or smell. SPORES: White, elliptical. HABITAT: On dead and decaying hardwood, especially birch, ash and hazel. SEASON: Frequent. Late summer to late mid-winter. EDIBILITY: Inedible. |
