RUSSULA OCHROLEUCA

CAP: 5-10cm wide.  Yellow or golden yellow.  Convex becoming flattened with central depression.  When wet the cuticle becomes slimy and can be easily removed. STIPE: White with greyish flush.  Smooth, becoming slightly wider towards the base.  Brittle. GILLS/PORES: Gills start white then become pale cream.  Brittle, adnexed to free and quite distant. FLESH: Mainly white but yellow under cap cuticle.  Brittle.  No distinct smell but with a peppery taste. SPORES: Hyaline, broadly ellipsoid to globose with prominent warts. HABITAT: Within mixed woods. SEASON: Common.  Summer to late autumn. EDIBILITY: Inedible.
