CAP: 10-25cm in diameter. Dull greyish brown. Ovoid to
globular at first eventually becoming bell shaped. Covered in
darker brown shaggy scales. STIPE: Tall, club-shaped. Entirely brown when young
becoming pale buff covered with dark brown scales giving a snake skin
appearance. Thick, large double ring which is brown below and
loose on the stem. GILLS/PORES: Free of the stem, white, crowded and broad. Brittle. FLESH: Whitish, thin and soft, bruising dull red. Woolly in
the cap. SPORES: White, long, ellipsoid. HABITAT: Outskirts of woodland, woodland clearings and fields. SEASON: Frequent. Summer to autumn. EDIBILITY: Edible and tasty. |
