CAP: 10-15cm in diameter. At first convex with inrolled
margin then becoming flattened. Light smoky grey to subtle shades
of greyish brown. Slightly felty surface which can be slightly
sticky and with wavy margin. STIPE: White and striped. Club shaped and occasionally
white felted at the base. GILLS/PORES: Gills are slightly decurrent and greyish yellow. FLESH: White with a strong acrid odour, mealy. SPORES: White to cream, elliptical. HABITAT: Both deciduous and coniferous forests. SEASON: Common, autumn. EDIBILITY: Edible but can cause gastric upsets. |
