FRUIT BODY: 2-4cm wide. When young the upper surface is grey
brown with a white edge. The whole fruit body darkens with
age. Finely downy then smooth and becoming very tough. Grows
in dense overlapping tiers. GILLS/PORES: The pores are smoky grey (darkening with age) and very
small indeed. Sub circular/angular. FLESH: Whitish and rubbery. Smells strongly fungoid and
tastes acidic. SPORES: Straw yellow, ellipsoid. HABITAT: Stumps and logs of broadleaf trees. SEASON: Commonthroughout. All year. EDIBILITY: Inedible. |
