FRUIT BODY: 10 - 30cm in diameter. Thick fan-shaped bracket with a hard reddish-brown upper surface that is zoned and knobbled and with a smooth white pore bearing under surface that discolours when handled. GILLS/PORES: The pores are small and white and discolour reddish-brown when handled. FLESH: Dark brown, thick and tough. SPORES: Brown, ovate. HABITAT: In tiers or singularly on the lower part of deciduous trunks. Parasitic. SEASON: Common. Throughout the year. EDIBILITY: Inedible. |
