FRUIT BODY: Up to 4cm in diameter the black fruiting bodies are disc-shaped with a black shiny upper surface and black felty sides. The surface leaves a black stain on the fingers if rubbed. Always found in groups and also known as Rubber Buttons. GILLS/PORES: N/A. FLESH: Dark brown and very rubbery becoming more elasticated in damp weather. SPORES: Dark brown. HABITAT: Preference for felled Oak, Beech or Chestnut. SEASON: Common.  All year round. EDIBILITY: Inedible.
