News from within and outside the area.
 
18th February 2025 -  Heaton Mersey Park, Stockport, G. Manchester - Calloria neglecta; Daldinia concentrica and Phragmidium sanguisorbae were the only fungi recorded today.
 
17th February 2025 - Fletcher Moss, Didsbury, G. Manchester - A new fungus for the year, Uromyces hyacinthi on Bluebell leaves. In a few weeks it will be everywhere.
 
16th Februray 2025 - Denzell Gardens and The Devisdale, Altrincham, Cheshire - A few fungi from a short visit to a new area. Kretzschmaria deusta; Xylaria carpophila; Hypoxylon fragiforme; Stereum hirsutum and Ganoderma australe were all with Fagus; Fomitopsis betulinus was on Betula; Byssomerulius corium on Ulex and Vuilleminia comedens and Peniophora quercina on Quercus. Nothing outrageous but in truth, we weren't really looking.
 
8th February 2025 - Skippool Creek, Thornton Cleveleys, Lancashire - After a morn at a retro market, some good food and a bit of book shopping we had a pre-footy strll. Birds were the main theme but we addeda couple of fungi too:- Xylaria longipes; Erythricium aurantiacum; Claviceps purpurea var. spartinae and Gibberella gordonii.
 
6th February 2025 - River Mersey, Stockport, G. Manchester - Walking into Stockport to pick up the missus and drop off some of my Nifty Fifty Books at Greenhouse Books. Clypeosphaeria mamillana; Peniophora laeta and Albugo candida were 3 fungi examples noted.
 
6th February 2025 - Bramhall Park, Stockport, G. Manchester - A bug hunt didn't bring great reward but a few fungi were recorded anyway:- Calocera cornea; Mensularia radiata; Seiferta azalea; Trichaptum abietinum; Chondrostereum purpureum; Sarcoscypha austriaca; Stereum hirsutum; Fomitopsis betulinus; Mycena galericulata; Auricularia auricula-judae; Trametes versicolor; Kretzscmaria deusta and Ganoderma australe kept the fungalised ball rolling.
 
5th February 2025 - Heaton Mersey, Stockport, G. Manchester - Walking home from work, Trochila ilicina; Phacidium multivalve and albugo candida were the only fungi seen.
 
3rd February 2025 - Marie Louise Gardens, Didsbury, G. Manchester - A look for some early hoverflies, I saw 3 and a trio of fungi:- Coleroa robertiani; Hypoxylon petriniae and Exidia nucleata.
 

3rd February 2025 - Wythenshawe CP, G. Manchester - A few fungi were recorded on a short visit:- Tremella foliacea; Plicaturopsis crispa; Stereum hirsutum; Hypoxylon petriniae; Peniophora quercina; Chondrostereum purpureum; Flammulina velutipes; Geastrum triplex and Heterobasidion annosum.

 
2nd February 2025 - Elton Reservoir, Bury, G. Manchester - A birding walk, we spied a couple of fungal examples:- Tremella mesenterica; Peniophora quercina; i; Hypoxylon fuscum; Stereum rugosum; Trametes gibbosa; Trametes versicolor and Bjerkandera adusta.
 
1st February 2025 - Manor Park, Glossop, Derbyshire - A pre-shopping and footy walk. the only fungi seen today were:- Exidia nucleata; Heterobasidion annosum; Ganoderma australe; Stereum hirsutum; Auricularia auricula-judae; Exidia glandulosa; Bjerkandera adusta and Daldinia concentrica.
 

31st January 2025 - Alexander Park, Stockport, G. Manchester - Continuing my walk home, the few fungi noted and the last for the month were:- Auricularia mesenterica; Trametes versicolor; Trametes gibbosa; Flammulina velutipes; Calloria neglecta; Bjerkandera adusta and Stereum hirsutum.

These few records make it 363 (of 137 species) for the year submitted on the Fungus Conservation Trust Database - RIP Michael Jordan and thank you for encouraging us folk to do this, we are still striving.

 
31st January 2025 - Cale Green Park, Stockport, G. Manchester - Following a chest X-ray I walked home. Puccinia vincae; Nectria cinnabarina; Trametes versicolor; Bjerkandera adusta and Lenzites betulina were seen as I weaved through a park.
 
30th January 2025 - Chorlton WP, G. Manchester - Acid reflux, sore guts, tickly cpugh and a stye on the eye, by heck I am run down. A cycle, a few fungi were recorded to keep the peepers in and to try and distract attention. Species seen were:- Trametes gibbosa; Bjerkandera adusta; Annulohypoxylon multiforme; Diatrype bullata; Xylaria longipes; Tubaria furfuracea; Daldinia concentrica; Auricularia auricula-judae; Hypoxylon petriniae; Daedaleopsis confragosa; Hyphodontia sambuci; Chondrostereum purpureum; Tremella mesenterica; Peniophora limitata; Mensularia radiata; Stereum hirsutum; Trametes versicolor; Vuilleminia comedens; Dialonectria episphaeria; Phlebia radiata; Peniophora quercina; Fomitopsis betulinus; Hypoxylon intermedium and some old Lycoperdon pyriforme.
 
29th January 2025 - Fog Lane Park, Benchill, G. Manchester - A half day at work, a cycle and a walk with a coffee and ham butty in the mix. The few fungi recorded today were:- Puccinia caricina var. ribesii-pendulae; Bjerkandera adusta; Cylindrobasidium laeve; Diatrype bullata; Clypeosphaeria mamillana; Xylaria hypoxylon; Dacrymyces stillatus; Trametes versicolor; Peniophora laeta; Byssomerulius corium; Preniophora quercina; Vuilleminia corium; Hypoxylon petriniae; Stereum hirsutum; Auricularia auricula-judae; Hyphodontia sambuci; Nectria cinnabarina and Exidia nucleata.
 
27th January 2025 - Reddish Vale CP, Stockport, Cheshire - A short mooch with a mate, a few fungi seen:- Mycena tenerrima; Stereum rugosum; Trametes versicolor; Daldinia concentrica; Orbilia xanthostigma; Xylaria hypoxylon; Nectria cinnabarina; Chondrostereum purpureum; Hypoxylon intermedium; Peniophora limitata; Tremella mesenterica; Peniophora quercina; Xylaria longipes; Ascocoryne sarcoides; Crepidotus cesatii and Exidia recisa.
 
26th January 2025 - Poynton Coppice/Middlewood Way, Stockport, Cheshire - A good walk with the missus despite a late night gigging and a pesky cough. A few fungi were noted, these being:- Calloria neglecta; Tremella mesenterica; Erythricium aurantiacum; Hypoxylon intermedium; Stereum rugosum; Dichomitus campestris; Peniophora quercina; Diatrypella quercina; Vuilleminia comedens; Byssomerulius corium; Stereum hirsutum; Exidia glandulosa; Bertia moriformis; Phragmidium violaceum; Radulomyces molaris; Fomitopsis betulinus and Tubaria furfuracea.
 

24th January 2025 - Bruntwood Park, Stockport, G. Manchester - A short cycle in the whipping wind, a coffee and bacon and egg bap, I fed the birds and only counted a few fungi before heading home. Ascocoryne cylichnium; Phlebia radiata; Ganoderma australe; Stereum hirsutum; Trametes versicolor; Xylaria carpophila; Vuilleminia comedens; Heterobasidion annosum; Xylaria hypoxylon and an old specimen of Polyporus squamosus.

After a chat with my mate Peter Thompson I was informed that a recent asco I found on Stereum hirsutum was Hyphodiscus hymeniophilus which will be the 8th record on the Fungus Conservation Trust Database and only the 4th in the UK on the NBN Atlas - nifty!

 

23rd January 2025 - Gorsey Bank, Stockport, G. Manchester - Clypeosphaeria mamillana was seen growing on the stems of Red Dogwood.

 
 
22nd January 2025 - Heaton Moor, Stockport, G. Manchester - Arrhenia retiruga was seen growing from a mix of moss on a roadside wall.
 

20th January 2025 - Gatley Carrs, Stockport, G. Manchester - A quick outing, the small amount of fungi identified were:- Leptosphaeria acuta; Dendryphion comosum; Calloria neglecta; Nitschkia confertula; Sarcoscypha austriaca; Phlebia radiata; Byssomerulius corium; Botryobasidium aureum; Hypoxylon petriniae; Chondrostereum purpureum and Exidia nucleata. Also was added the myxo (Trichia scabra) after some online advice and pictures.
 
19th January 2025 - Debdale Park, Stockport, G. Manchester - A birding walk after a late night gigging, the few fungi recorded were:- Pleurotus ostreatus; Taphrina betulina; Ganoderma australe; Peniophora quercina; Diaporthe samaricola; Daldinia concentrica; Chondrostereum purpureum; Trametes versicolor; Byssomerulius corium; Vuilleminia comedens; Stereum hirsutum; Calloria neglecta; Hyphodontia sambuci; Auricularia auricula-judae; Tremella mesenterica; Daedaleopsis confragosa; Hypoxylon petriniae and Hypoxylon fuscum.
 
17th January 2025 - Heaton Mersey, Stockport, G. Manchester - Lachnum virgineum was seen on rotten wood, the only fungi I noted whilst wandering home after a day at work.
 
16th January 2025 - Painswick Park, Wythenshawe, G. Manchester - I am easing off on the fungal front for a bit, having recently packed in my walks, witnessed the rise in foraging and then being hit with Michael Jordan's death my mojo has disappeared. As I recorded the birds today, at a new area, I did still record:- Bjerkandera adusta; Daldinia concentrica; byssomerulius corium; peniophora quercina; Vuilleminia comedens; Rhopographus filicinus; Taphrina betulina and Trametes versicolor.
 
13th January 2025 - Sale WP, Stockport, G. Manchester - I have lost my mojo at the mo, I concentrated on having a stroll and watching the birds. I recorded 6 fungi:- Sarcoscypha austriaca; Chondrostereum purpureum; Crepidotus mollis; Annulohypoxylon multiforme; Ganoderma applanatum and Exidia recisa.
 
12th January 2025 - Etherow CP, Stockport, G. Manchester - A walk after 2 late nights gigging. We had a lovely stroll and saw a few fungi:- Taphrina betulina; Fomitopsis betulinus; Phlebia tremellosa; Ganoderma australe; Trichaptum abietinum; Byssomerulius corium; Tremella foliacea; Sarcomyxa serotina; Daedaleopsis confragosa; Mensularia radiata; Plicaturopsis crispa; Rhopographus filicinus; Tremella mesenterica; Chromocyphella muscicola; Trametes versicolor; Peniophora quercina; Stereum rugosum; Annulohypxylon multiforme; Illosporiopsis christiansenii; Seiferta azalea; Hyphodontia sambuci; Flammulinia velutipes; Xylaria carpophila; Daldinia concentrica; Stereum hirsutum; Peniophora limitata; Hypoxylon intermedium; Exidia glandulosa; Diatrype stigma; Xylaria hypoxylon; Fomes fomentarius; Auricularia auricula-judae; Pleurotus ostreatus; Mycena tenerrima; Exidia recisa; Hemimycena tortuosa; Phragmidium violaceum; Crepidotus cesatii and Calloria neglecta.
 
8th January 2025 - River Mersey, Stockport, G. Manchester - A slightly different route was taken as I tiptoed home in the ice. I saw:- Tremella foliacea; Tremella mesenterica; Exidia plana; Stereum gausapatum; Peniophora quercina; Stereum rugosum and Cylindrobasidium laeve.
 
7th January 2025 - Gorsey Bank, Stockport, G. Manchester - Only 4 fungi noted at this small area:- Nectria cinnabarina; Annulohypoxylon multiforme; Mycena tenerrima and Stereum hirsutum.
 
6th January 2025 - Cheadle Heath, Stockport, G. Manchester - Schizophyllum commune was the 104th species recorded on the Fungus Conservation Trust Database this year.
 
6th January 2025 - Abney Hall, Stockport, G. Manchester - Due to crappy weather and having a doctors appointment i went for a short walk locally and a coffee and a read. The fungi seen today were- Dendryphion comosum; Leptosphaeria acuta; Mycena olida; Calycina herbarum; Ascocoryne cylichnium; Illosporiopsis christiansenii; Melanotus horizontalis; Sarcoscypha austriaca; Calocera viscosa; Coprinellus domesticus; Stereum gausapatum; Mycena meliigena; Exidia glandulosa; Vuilleminia coryli; Spaheropsis sapinea; Calloria neglecta; Tremella mesenterica; Peniophora lycii; Hypoxylon intermedium; Xylaria carpophila; Trametes gibbosa; Lepista flaccida; Exidia recisa; Mycena tenerrima; Vuilleminia comedens; Xanthoriicola physciae; Daedaleopsis confragosa and Chromocyphella muscicola.
 
5th January 2025 - Abney Hall, Stockport, G. Manchester - Shabby weather so a good march and a quick walk through this area to meet the daughter after her dance rehearsals and have a coffee. The few fungi spied were:- Marasmius hudsonii; Fomitopsis betulinus; Stictis stellata; Mycena pseudocorticola; Clitocybe fragrans; Pleurotus ostreatus and Seiferta azalea.
 
4th January 2025 - Romiley, Stockport, G. Manchester - A new fungus for the year:- Clavulina rugosa.
 
4th January 2025 - Poise Brook, Stockport, G. 3rd January 2025 - East Didsbury, G. Manchester - Walking home, a car park was laden with flooded cars, the price of natural neglect I am afraid to say. I saw Geoglossum fallax and skipped on into the rain.
 
3rd January 2025 - River Mersey, Didsbury to Stockport, G. Manchester - The paths were covered in debris and mud, the rain was falling again and the river was still high after the recent floods. The only fungi recorded were:- Puccinia caricina var. ribesii-pendulae; Exidia recisa; Gloeophyllum sepiarium and Dacrymyces stillatus.
 
3rd January 2025 - Fletcher Moss, Didsbury, G. Manchester - I left work early as we were having heating problems, it was freezing. I did a long loop walk home, nipped through this area for a coffee and noted Eutypella scoparia; Neonectria coccinea; Trametes gibbosa; Exidia recisa; Schizophyllum amplum and Tremella mesenterica. The area was flooded in many areas.
 
2nd January 2025 - Heaton Moor, Stockport, G. Manchester - No heating in work, I was perished so went for a jog.  On the way back I made note of a few fungi:- Coprinopsis atramentaria; Tubaria furfuracea; Chondrostereum purpureum; Lepista nuda; Nectria cinnabarina; Stereum hirsutum; Trametes versicolor; Peniophora lycii; Hypoxylon intermedium; Laxitextum bicolor; Bjerkandera adusta; Coprinellus micaceus; Peniophora quercina and Vuilleminia comedens.
