1st December 2024 - Brockholes LWT, Lancashire - A walk with the missus in lovely weather. 29th November 2024 - Cheadle Heath, Stockport, G. Manchester - Lepiota cristata was seen growing along a pathside - a very late effort. |

25th November 2024 - Alexandra Park, Moss Side, G. 24th November 2024 - Frodsham Lagoon, Cheshire - A new area walked, we know Frodsham Marsh well, this tail end bit we have never traversed. The only fungi seen were:- Arthrinium phaeospermum; Illosporiopsis christiansenii; Auricularia auricula-judae and Phragmidium violaceum. |

21st November 2024 - Heaton Mersey, Stockport, G. Manchester - The fungal three spied today were noted as I pushed the bike to work sipping a coffee. Leccinum scabrum and Lactarius turpis were under an ornamental Birch and a small gathering of Inocybe geophylla were at the base of a Lime tree - they all looked rather perished. |

20th November 2024 - Heaton Moor Park, Stockport, G. Manchester - The fungus season is done, I am just looking at 3 species a day from now until Christmas, I have lots to catch up on. Today I spied Exidia nucleata and Hypoxylon intermedium on a fallen Ash twig and a cascade of Hypholoma fasciculare tumbling down a rotten old log - tis' all rather brilliant. |

17th November 2024 - Bradgate Park, Leicestershire - After a chat with 2 delightful lasses at the previous area we headed to this site on recommendation. By heck it was busy and we were soon dashing forth away from the main thoroughfare that was like a busy arcade. 17th November 2024 - Beacon Hill CP, Leicestershire - Up early and out to a new site. 16th November 2024 - Swithland Wood, Leicestershire - The final walk of the season was led and the last ever full-on fungus walk. The group was organised by Sarah Mills and I came and did my bit. The fungi didn't play fair but the grand folk were patientand helped compile an adequate list. After microscopy the tally stood at 64 species.

15th November 2024 - Heaton Moor, Stockport, G. Manchester - A pootle for the dinner break, the damp air and the grey skies needed some contrast, it came in the way of 7 specimens of Porpolomopsis calyptriformis. In the same tiny area I also spied:- Clavulina rugosa; Nectria cinnabarina; Chondrostereum purpureum; Flammulina velutipes; Bisporella sulfurina; Hypxylon petriniae; Hypholoma fasciculare and Xylaria hypoxylon. Further along I noted Amanita muscaria; Leccinum scabrum and Lactarius turpis. |

14th November 2024 - Abney Hall, Stockport, G. Manchester - An early finish from work, a cycle, some jogging, home for weights and boxing. In the midst I had a lounge in the sun whilst sipping a coffee and having a read and I also saw:- Lachnum apalum; Sarcoscypha austriaca; Crepidotus mollis and Chromocyphella muscicola on an Acer. |

13th November 2024 - River Mersey, Stockport, G. Manchester - On the way home I gathered some micro fungo on Bramble stems, I was duly flummoxed but with the help Peter Thompson was able to record:- Pezicula rubi; Triposporium elegans and Diaporthe eres. |

11th November 2024 - River Mersey, Stockport, G. Manchester - A cycle, a short pootle, some jogging, a coffee and a read and a cycle home. Only 3 fungi seen today:- Lachnella alboviolascens; Hysterographium fraxini and Hypoxylon intermedium with its yellow reaction to KOH. |

7th November 2024 - Heaton Moor, Stockport, G. Manchester - Another walk away from the work desk, I was knackered today. The few fungi seen:- Crepidotus mollis; Laxitextum bicolor; Hypoxylon fragiforme; Pholiota squarrosa; Lepista nuda; Chlorophyllum rachodes; Tubaria dispersa and Cystoderma amianthinum.

6th November 2024 - River Mersey, Stockport, G. Manchester - It was nearly dark when I rode home, I checked under a few logs for bug life and did note Mycena tenerrima and Datronia mollis - they did make me smile. |

5th November 2024 - River Mersey, Stockport, G. Manchester - A rushed day, the only fungi seen whilst heading home were Botryobasidium aureum on rotten wood; Calyptella capula on Nettle and the following species on Ash twigs and branches:- Eichleriella deglubens; Exidia nucleata; Daldinia concentrica; Bisporella sulfurina; Hypoxylon petriniae; Neonectria coccinea; Valsa cypri; Peniophora limitata; Tremella mesenterica; Hyalorbilia inflatulata; Phloeomana speirea; Nitschkia confertula and Rosellinia mammiformis. |

4th November 2024 - River Mersey, Stockport, G. Manchester - Homeward bound, a cut off and a small stretch of vegetation checked. Some Ash twigs held:- Daldinia concentrica; Phloeomana speirea; Byssomerulius corium and Hypoxylon petriniae. There was a small fungus I looked at and then threw, later I realised it could have been an all time new species, bastard! I may try and return and scramble for the needle in a haystack.
Nettle stems were checked and I recorded (after microscopy of course);- Macroconia leptosphaeriae; Leptosphaeria acuta; Crepidotus luteolus; Leptosphaeria doliolum; Endophragmia atra; Periconia byssoides and Crocicreas cyathoideum.

4th November 2024 - Sale Water Park, G. Manchester - A meet up with a good chap and a natter, walk and 3 coffees. I only counted a handful of fungi, it wasn't that kind of day. Mycena filopes; Daldinia concentrica; Chaetosphaerella phaeostroma; Mycena tenerrima; Bisporella sulfurina; Chondrostereum purpureum; Paxillus involutus; Lactarius glyciosmus; Tricholoma scalpturatum and Erythricium aurantiacum were the few named - it was enough. |

3rd November 2024 - Hassall Green NR, Betchton, Cheshire - The 500th walk led by me and a good crowd joined in for an Auntumnal Walk, Rebecca of The Land Trust provided warm brews, biscuits and good compant and although not a place one would deem fungally fruitful we did OK all things considered. 2nd November 2024 - Grappenhall Wall Gardens, Cheshire - After leading the morning walk it was time for soup and coffee, a short mooch followed by Non-League Football and the 200th gig i had organised. 31st October 2024 - Chorlton WP, G. Manchester - An early finish from work, a cycle taking in a longer route and then I arrived at an area I don't visit too often these days. 30th October 2024 - Heaton Moor, Stockport, G. Manchester - Another dinner break from the desk. The skies were bleak, the odd light smattering of rain fell and people looked perished. I was in a T-shirt, I usually wait til Nov 1st before adding layers - I like my arms feeling fresh. On the lawn outside work were an increasing tribe of Gliophorus laetus, a few scattered Hygrocybe reidii and the odd Cuphophyllus virgineus. A local Beech Tree that I hadn't checked for a while gave rise to several specimens of Lactarius fulvissimus and Clavulina rugosa but only one knocked over Lactarius blennius. A Beech stump by the road had the usual suspect but were joined by Abortiporus biennis and Armillaria gallica. Further along and a raised roadside Silver Birch that was surrounded by tightly mown grass presented me with Inocybe geophylla; Amanita muscaria and Chalciporus piperatus. |

Manchester - A break from the work desk, the only fungi noted were:- Pholiota squarrosa; Mycena vitilis; Russula fragilis and Russula atropurpurea with Turkey Oak and Helvella crispa with an Oak. Parasola leiocephala and Clavulinopsis helvola were also added. |

28th October 2024 - Bruntwood Park, Stockport, G. Manchester - A very short pootle today as I had things to do. The few fungi recorded were:- Clavulinopsis helvola; Hygrocybe insipida; Lactarius hepaticus; Russula amoenolens; Russula sanguinea; Clitocybe nebularis; Hygrophoropsis aurantiaca; Amanita muscaria; Gymnopus peronatus; Melanotus horizontalis; Mycena pseudocorticola; Amanita rubescens; Laccaria laccata; Helvella lacunosa; Bolbitius titubans; Stereum hirsutum; Stereum gausapatum; Meripilus giganteus; Gymnopilus junonius; Collybia cookei; Polyporus squamosus and Hypholoma fasciculare. |

27th October 2024 - Marshall Arms NR, Cheshire - One of the toughest spots to look for fungi had me on edge when a 30 minute reccie produced 4 species. 30+ people turned up, faces of expectation were plentiful, why do I put myself through this - ah yes, to get fungi noted and protected and to share the word.
As a group we set off, the young eyes were a blessing and after a wander hither and tither and some post-walk microscopy the list ended up at a respectable 78 species.

26th October 2024 - Arley Hall, Cheshire - Imagine leading a fungus walk when news comes one way that the leaf blowers have blown many funi away, the kids have kicked over the rest and the lawns had recently been mowed. It happens, Arley Hall always welcome me and the missus and treat us well and again, both walks were sold out. These were the last fungi walks there, next year we change tack.
After 2 walks the end tally was 104 species, it was hard work today.

23rd October 2024 - Heaton Park, G. Manchester - A walk with the Young Carers, we visited the farm, played on the park, had lunch and even found a few fungi. The route from the recent walk was different and near a pond the fallen Beech held:- Pholiota gummosa; Chondrostereum purpureum; Sarcomyxa serotina; Trametes versicolor; Abortiporus biennis; Crepidotus mollis; Stereum hirsutum; Xylaria hypoxylon and Scleroderma areolatum on the soil nearby. Ganoderma applanatum and Armillaria gallica were also seen.

20th October 2024 - Coombes Valley RSPB, Staffordshire - The walk was sold out, 3 people didn't show, the weather was forecast abyssmal and that is what it was. 17th October 2024 - Abney Hall, Stockport, G. Manchester - I finished work early, had a coffee and a read in glorious sunshine before heading home through this local park. On the way I saw a few fungi.
On and with Fagus sylvatica I noted:- Oudemansiella mucida; Stereum hirsutum; Meripilus giganteus; Hypoxylon fragiforme; Crepidotus mollis; Xylaria hypoxylon; Trametes versicolor; Ganoderma australe and Bjerkandera adusta.
On and with Betula pendula I saw:- Mycena galopus; Laccaria laccata; Macrotyphula fistulosa; Rhizomarasmius setosus; Clitopilus prunulus; Paxillus involutus; Tricholoma fulvum and Nectria cinnabarina.
In grassy areas I found:- Hygrocybe reidii; Cuphophyllus virgineus; Clavulinopsis helvola and Hygrocybe chlorophana.
Other species seen were:- Calycina herbarum; Endophragmia atra and Trichopeziza sulphureum on Urtica dioica; Naucoria escharioides; Armillaria gallica and Mensularia radiata with Alnus glutinosa; Infundibulicybe geotropa with Aesculus hippocastanum; Auricularia auricula-judae and Hyphodontia sambuci on Sambucus nigra; Xylaria longipes on some old rotted wood and Lycoperdon pyriforme on buried wood. Pholiota gummosa was the final find, a cluster bursting though some damp and compressed soil.

I did see Peniophora laeta on fallen Hornbeam branches though - it seems to be very common if the host is present. |

9th October 2024 - Speke Hall, Liverpool, Merseyside - A coffee, and another sold out walk to lead. The rain abated, we pootled for a couple of hours (and a little bit extra). Prior to the walk we had a short stroll with the gent Tony Carter who certainly knows his fungi too. After microscopy from Tony and I, the end tally was a respectable 114 species. 8th October 2024 - Heaton Moor, Stockport, G. Manchester - A quick walk as I needed a break at work. Fungi seen were:- Gliophorus laetus and Gliophorus psittacina in mowed grass and with a few Silver Birch there were several examples of Leccinum scabrum and Tricholoma fulvum along with a few Paxillus involutus and a splendid array of Amanita muscaria. Further along a small gathering of Inocybe geophylla were under another fine Silver Birch. |

7th October 2024 - Colemere CP, Shropshire - I was leading a fungi walk for the wonderful folk of the Audlem Wildlife and Ecology Group, a cracking bunch whom I last led a walk for in 2021. 5th Oct 2024 - Grinlow Wood, Buxton, Derbyshire - By heck, a grand bunch of 30+ people turned up for the Buxtion Field Club Fungus Walk led by yours truly. It was a good pootle only hindered by too many Sycamore and Ash trees and some surprisingly dry ground. We did what we do, had an extra pootle afterwards and of course, a coffee and a wind down. 30th September 2024 - Stockport, G. Manchester - A foul rainy day and I walked to work with the brolly up and head down. I did noted Hypholoma fasciculare growing on some old wooden pathside edging, and a lawn near to where I work held a small group of Gliophorus psittacinus and a lone Hygrocybe nigrescens. The only other species seen was a fallen example of Polyporus squamosus. |

27th September 2024 - Gorsey Bank, Stockport, G. Manchester - One fungus was spied as I strolled to work, Coprinus comatus - this one without a shaggy bonce, a bald bugger to be honest, just like me - bah. |

26th September 2024 - Heaton Moor, Stockport, G. Manchester - Another dinnertime walk, this time a different route around the streets and a look at a tiny churchyard. The fungi seen today were:- Exidia nucleata and Xylaria hypoxylon growing on a pile of churchyard logs where I took a leak, Amanita rubescens and Laccaria laccata growing beneath a Cherry whilst nearby, on a similar species of tree, a fine array of Mycena pseudocorticola were growing up the bark. In the mowed grass spied Clavulinopsis corniculata, Clavulinopsis laeticolor, Clavaria acuta, Hygrocybe ceracea and Russula frainipes. Making my way back to the office I spied Hebeloma crustuliniforme and Scleroderma citrinum growing beneath a Silver Birch whilst the usual patch of Tubaria dispersa was getting bigger and further along a different Hawthorn gave rise to just a couple of sporophores. It is all par for the course. |

25th September 2024 - Heaton Moor, Stockport, G. Manchester - A break from the work desk, I was shattered today. A walk around the local streets and I saw:- Tricholoma scalpturatum and Lepiota cristata under ornamental Birch, Boletus edulus, Paxillus involutus and Russula praetervisa under regular Silver Birch. Hygrocybe reidii was in the works lawn as was Clavulinopsis corniculata, Meripulus giganteus was seen on some roadside timber, Coprinus comatus was on a mossy verge and in a couples garden I spied Hypholoma fasciculare growing from some buried Pine wood and Cuphophyllus pratensis growing in their lawn. Calocybe carnea was on a nearby lawn and Puccinia lagenophorae was on the leaves of Groundsel in a small park area. Under some Beech was one or two examples of Lactarius fulvissimus. The only other species noted was a clump of Coprinellus micaceus growing around the base of a tired Rowan. |

22nd July 2024 - Bruntwood Park, Stockport, G. Manchester - A short pootle and once again I was looking at bugs. The few fungi noted though were:- Nectria peziza; Cerioporus squamosus; Pucciniastrum circaeae; Coleosporium tussilaginis and Rhytisma acerinum were the fungi seen today and an early morning pootle. |

14th April 2024 - Lymm Dam, Warrington, Cheshire - At this time of year we are happy to look away from the Fungal realm and just go with the flow. It is, however, always important just to keep the eye in. With my daughter in tow today we were always going to see something but little did we expect to turn up 268 examples of Helvella acetabulum. Wow - what a sincere bonus. Also thrown in were:- Hemimycena tortuosa; Xylaria longipes; Uromyces hyacinthi; Kretzschmaria deusta; Ganoderma applanatum; Kuehneromyces mutabilis; Entyloma ficariae; Puccinia sessilis; Colocybe gambosa; Plasmopara nivea; Coprinellus micaceus; Uromyces ficariae and Auricularia mesenterica. We also found an old example of Calvatia gigantea - I took a bit for my home Nettle bed. |
