On the attached dead stems of a Variegated Holly I also saw Stereum rugosum. |
9th November 2023 - Heaton Moor, Stockport, G. Manchester - Still at work and still squeezing in a quick gander at the local area. Today a few Helvella crispa were growing beneath a sturdy Beech, Nectria cinnabarina was encrusted on a dead Hornbeam branch and a few specimens of Tricholoma stiparophyllum were spied beneath a Silver Birch. Peziza micropus was seen on woodchip. |
8th November 2023 - Heaton Moor, Stockport, G. Manchester - Another dinnertime walk, the weather was mighty pleasant and I continued my weekly bout of short fungal pootles. A fine spread of Tricholoma scalpturatum was found beneath some ornamental Silver Birch trees whilst a little further along some fallen Oak branches gave rise to Stereum hirsutum and a fresh bracket of Postia subcaesia. A small Oak stump bore a little cluster of Mycena haematopus which was a delight to behold plus a gathering of Lachnum virgineum. Moving on and in a cul-de-sac some old logs were bearing Hypholoma fasciculare and Mycena arcangeliana and a nearby stump was adorned with Calocera cornea; Trametes gibbosa and Gymnopilus junonius. The roots were erupting with Meripilus giganteus and Armillaria mellea whilst some nearby buried wood sported a collection of old Lycoperdon pyriforme. Under 2 fine Beech trees were a few Clavulina rugosa and several Lactarius blennius and Lactarius fulvissimus - all enhanced by the coppery carpets of fallen leafage. Also seen were a few striate grey caps of Mycena aetites. The other species note today were:- Bjerkandera adusta on a Horse Chestnut stump, Cuphophyllus virgineus on a mowed lawn alongside a few Mycena flavoalba and a brace of Coprinus comatus at the side of a wall. I did add Lepsita sordida earlier in the day, it was growing through the pavement and looked really out of place. |
7th November 2023 - Heaton Moor, Stockport, G. Manchester - As the fungal season winds down I am just catching up and having the odd minor pootle. This week I am planning on using my dinner break to do 4 walks for 30 minutes each and see what I can see around the local streets. Today I checked a narrow lawn that was approximately 50ft long by 3ft wide with a few nearby Silver Birches. I spied:- 2 freshly emerged Boletus edulis; a couple of Amanita muscaria; 1 Laccaria laccata; a couple of fresh Tricholoma fulvum, some rather aged Lactarius pubescens and 2 robust Chalciporus piperatus. Nearby were a little gathering of Gliophorus psittacinus; some work Gliophorus laetus; a troop of Cuphophyllus virgineus and some Trochila ilicina. On a rotting fence at the side of a small conservation area I noted Postia subcaesia wearing its blueing attire and a limp specimen of Mycena galericulata. A Sycamore Tree had a cluster of Armillaria mellea around its base, a scattered gathering of Mycena tenerrima were hanging around the mossy bark of a Lime Tree and further along Geoglossum fallax marched across an unkempt lawn whilst Puccinia lagenophorae adorned the leaves of a defiant Groundsel plant. |
