30th December 2021 - Sale Water Park, G. Manchester - A few fungi on the last walk of the year in piddling rain:- Clitocybe nebularis; Daedaleopsis confragosa; Flammulina elastica; Mensularia radiata; Pleurotus ostreatus and Phloeomana speirea were the ones scribbled down with the microscope needed to confirm a few.
 
25th December 2021 - Poynton Pool, Stockport, Cheshire - Whilst feeding and counting the birds a few fungi were noted:- Dacrymyces stillatus; Exidia nucleata; Nectria cinnabarina; Helvella crispa; Bjerkandera adusta; Daedaleopsis confragosa; Trametes versicolor; Chondrostereum pupureum; Trametes gibbosa; Pholiota squarrosa; Stereum hirsutum; Hypoxylon fragiforme; Xylaria hypoxylon; Ascocoryne cylichnium and Lyocoperdon pyriforme.
 
19th December 2021 - Ainsdale Sands, Lancashire - A pootle through the dunes, a few fungi identified after microscopy were:- Puccinia smyrnii; Tulostoma melanocyclum; Tulostoma brumale; Peniophora quercina; Hyphodontia sambuci; Stereum hirsutum; Byssomerulius corium; Xylaria hypoxylon; Chondrostereum purpureum; Marasmius epiphyllus; Daedaleopsis confragosa; Coniophora puteana; Crepidotus calolepis; Trametes versicolor; Tubaria furfuracea; Hygrocybe conicoides; Tricholoma scalpturatum; Phragmidium bulbosum; Crepidotus cesatii; Omphalina pyxidata; Psathyrella corrugis; Galerina vittiformis; Diatrype bullata; Steccherinum ochraceum; Laccaria pumila and Lepiota erminea.
 
19th December 2021 - Marshside RSPB, Lancashire - Out early and with the mist low birding was almost impossible. We did find a couple of fungi though, these were:- Cuphophyllus virgineus; Mycena olivaceomarginata; Galerina vittiformis; Mycena flavoalba; Claviceps spartinae and Gibberella gordonii.
 

13th December 2021 - Ladybrook Valley Cycleway, Stockport, G. Manchester - Out for a short cycle and walk - I noted a few fungi along a quiet stretch with only a few dog walkers about, the species lifted were:- Arthrinium phaeospermum; Ascocoryne cylichnium; Laptosphaeria acuta; Phloeomana speirea; Stereum rameale; Mycena pseudocorticola; Mycena meliigena; Mycena filopes; Mycena olida; Stereum rugosum; Chaetosphaerella phaeostroma; Peniophora quercina; Daldinia concentrica; Trametes versicolor; Exidia nucleata; Xylaria longipes; Bjerkandera adusta; Trametes gibbosa; Calycina herbarum; Belonidium sulphureum; Rhytisma acerinum; Auricularia auricula-judae; Daedaleopsis confragosa; Chondrostereum purpureum; Cylindrobasidium leave; Eichleriella deglubens; Naucoria escharoides; Vuilleminia comedens; Mycena tenerrima; Hypoxylon petriniae; Kretzchmaria deusta; Nectria cinnabarina; Crepidotus luteolus; Crepidotus cesatii; Ascocoryne sarcoides; Stereum gausapatum; Rosellinia mammiformis and Stereum hirsutum.

 

12th December 2021 - Walton Park, Sefton, Merseyside - A walk in fine sunshine, a few fungi were seen:- Lepista sordida; Xylaria hypoxylon; Parasola conopilus; Puccinia lagenophorae; Flammulina velutipes; Bjerkandera adusta; Aleuria aurantia; Rhytisma acerinum; Tubaria furfuracea; Pleurotus ostreatus; Exidia nucleata; Auricularia auricula-judae; Oidium euonymi-japonici; Hypholoma fasciculare; Leptosphaeria doliolum; Geastrum triplex; Ramaria stricta; Lepiota castanea; Trochila ilicina and Scizhophyllum commune.

 

9th December 2021 - Heaton Moor, Stockport, G. Manchester - The local colonies of Clavulina rugosa and Lactarius fulvissimus were looking better than ever and nearby I spied a fine tier tumble of Bjerkandera adusta with some Exidia nucleata on the same wood.

Trochila laurocerasi was also noted today.

 
2nd December 2021 - Glenbranter, Argyll and Bute - Only a few fungi were noted as the noggins were set to the floor and a good march was had. Fomes fomentarius; Trametes versicolor; Tubaria furfuracea; Sarcomyxa serotina; Pleurotus ostreatus; Kuehneromyces mutabilis; Hydnum repandum; Fomitopsis betulina; Gloeophyllum sepiarium; Ascocoryne cylichnium; Aleuria aurantia and Phaeolus schweinitzii were the few species noted.
 
1st December 2021 - Otter Ferry, Argyll and Bute - A birding walk was given extra interest with a few fungi, these being:- Cuphophyllus pratensis, Mensularia radiata; Lycoperdon perlatum; Clavulina coralloides; Laccaria laccata; Tricholoma ustale; Hydnum repandum; Trametes versicolor; Boletus edulis and Auricularia auricula-judae.
 
30th November 2021 - Bishop's Glen, Argyll and Bute - A fine spot for walking with the rain making sure we kept on the move. A few fungi were picked out, these were:- Hypholoma marginatum; Tubaria furfuracea; Xylaria hypoxylon; Royoporus badius; Clavulina rugosa; Russula ochroleuca; Clavulina cinerea; Ascocoryne cylichnium; Trametes versicolor; Hydnum repandum; Heterobasidion annosum; Craterellus tubaeformis; Cantharellus cibarius; Fomitopsis betulina; Stereum hirsutum; Dacrymyces stillatus; Coprinellus micaceus and Kuehneromyces mutabilis.
 
29th November 2021 - Inlellan, Argyll and Bute - 3 prime examples of Cuphophyllus pratensis were seen whilst doing a touch of birding.
 
29th November 2021 - Holy Loch Nature Reserve, Argyll and Bute - A short pootle at this small reserve. The few fungi seen were:- Lycoperdon pyriforme; Cerioporus leptocephalus; Stereum hirsutum; Annulohypoxylon multiforme; Trametes versicolor; Xylaria hypoxylon; Fomitopsos betulina and Peniophora lycii.
 
29th November 2021 - Puck's Glen, Argyll and Bute - An early morning walk with the snow on higher grounds and the waterfalls still flowing lower down. Along the way we spied a few fungi, these were:- Calocera cornea; Dacrymyces stillatus; Inocybe geophylla; Clavulina rugosa; Heterobasidion annosum; Russula ochroleuca; Trichaptum abietinum; Gymnopilus penetrans; Fomitopsis betulina; Trametes versicolor; Fomes fomentarius; Rhopographus filicinus; Claviceps purpurea; Phaeolus schweinitzii; Cordyceps militaris; Hydnum rufescens and Craterellus tubaeformis.
 
28th November 2021 - Ardnadam Bay, Dunoon, Argyll and Bute - A healthy tiering of Gloeophyllum sepiarium was seen to be growing from some decorticated wood.
 
28th November 2021 - Benmore Botanical Gardens, Dunoon, Argyll and Bute - An early morning walk to catch up with some friends, Whilst gasbagging we saw a few fungi defying the snow that had fallen, these were:- Ischnoderma benzoinum; Gliophorus laetus; Clavulina rugosa; Gymnopus confluens; Gymnopilus penetrans; Chaetosphaerella phaeostroma; Xylaria hypoxylon; Clavulina cinerea; Laccaria laccata; Hypomyces chrysospermus; Hypholoma fasciculare; Mycena galericulata; Hydnum repandum; Hygrophoropsis aurantiaca; Laccaria amethystea; Mycena galopus; Inocybe geophylla and Fomes fomentarius.
 
27th November 2021 - Dunoon to Inlellan Coastal Walk, Argyll and Bute - a birding walk that got the legs whirring. 4 fungi species were seen along the way, these were:- Cystoderma amianthinum; Laccaria laccata; Trametes versicolor and Aleuria aurantia.
 
26th November 2021 - Fletcher Moss, Didsbury, G. Manchester - A bike ride to stretch the aching carcass. I found a few Silver Birch trees and checked some old wood, the list comprised of:- Tremella mesenterica; Ascocoryne sarcoides; Trametes versicolor; Mycena tenerrima; Datronia mollis; Chondrostereum purpureum; Sarcomyxa serotina; Annulohypoxylon multiforme; Fomitopsis betulina; Stereum gausapatum; Exidia nucleata and Stereum hirsutum. Growing nearby were a few clumps of Lyophyllum decastes too.
 
25th November 2020 - Heaton Moor, Stockport, G. Manchester - A couple of specimens of Coprinus comatus were nearly done and a troop of Clavulina rugosa, in a different garden, were defying the cold.
 

20th November 2021 - Woodbank Park, Stockport, G. 19th November 2021 - Etherow CP, Stockport, G. 17th November 2021 - Heaton Moor, Stockport, G. Manchester - Beneath a couple of Beech trees I noted today a good swathe of Clavulina rugosa; several examples of Lactarius fulvissimus and a few Lactarius blennius.

11th November 2021 - Heaton Moor, Stockport, G. Manchester - A new addition to a local churchyard was Inocybe geophylla var. lilacina, this one growing with a Silver Birch.  Just down the road were a few specimens of Arrhenia retiruga and a single Amanita muscaria growing outside the local Co-Op. Some rather flaccid Aleuria aurantiaca were lovely and the old Hawthorn trunk outside my place of work was now sporting a few clusters of Mycena galericulata. Some Nettle stems held Leptosphaeria doliolum and Periconia byssoides, a Sycamore tree bore a cluster of Mycena olida on its mossy bark and Clavaria acuta was on a mossy lawn.
 
11th November 2021 - Heaton Mersey, Stockport, G. Manchester - The fungi were still saying 'hello' as I walked to work - a new specimen of Coprinus comatus, a fresh troop on Inocybe geophylla and a couple on Amanita muscaria were fine sights.
 
10th November 2021 - Alexandra Park, Stockport, G. Manchester - The brakes on the bike needed attention so after visiting the bicycle shop I walked home via this local park. Fungi seen were:- Hypholoma fasciculare; Armillaria mellea; Rhytisma acerinum; Naucoria escharioides; Exidia nucleata; Xylaria hypoxylon; Meripilus giganteus; Lycoperdon pyriforme; Clitocybe nebularis; Phacidium multivalve; Laccaria laccata; Pholiota squarrosa; Ganoderma australe; Mycena arcangeliana; Rhizomarasmius setosus; Coniophora puteana; Daldinia concentrica; Trametes gibbosa; Auricularia auricula-judae; Eichleriella deglubens and Bjerkandera adusta.
 
9th November 2021 - Heaton Moor, Stockport, G. Manchester - The Hawthorn tree that was dying and felled last year has a lovely clump of Hypholoma fasciculare digesting the base of the remaining trunk. Nearby a specimen od Coprinus comatus was bursting through the edge of a pavement and a brick wall.
 
7th November 2021 - Ainsdale NE, Lancashire - Me and the missus met up with 3 friends, had a good yomp and finished with a chippy tea as the sun went down. 5th November 2021 - Heaton Moor, Stockport, G. Manchester - I was showing a carer from work the waxcaps on the lawn outside my place of work, the usual suspects were there and Gloioxanthomyces vitellinus was back on show, I thought it had gone AWOL this year.
 
4th November 2021 - Heaton Moor, Stockport, G. Manchester - another short dinner break, on the roaming today I noted:- Cystoderma amianthinum; Gliophorus psittacina; Erysiphe urticae and Rhizomarasmius setosus.
 
3rd November 2021 - Heaton Moor, Stockport, G. Manchester - a short dinnertime break to stretch the shanks, Clavulina cinerea; Clavulina rugosa; Amanita rubescens and Tricholoma scalturatum were the only fungi seen, but all were appreciated.
 
2nd November 2021 - Stockport, G. Manchester - After work I wandered home and down the river saw Crepidotus mollis var. calolepis; Puccinia lapsanae and Pterula caricis-pendulae.
 
1st November 2021 - Stockport, G. Manchester - A trip into town, a roundabout with a Silver Birch tree and 3 examples of Amanita muscaria - nice.
 
31st October 2021 - Abney Hall, Stockport, G. Manchester - A 10, 000 step walk with the missus, we weren't hanging around as there was lots to do on a designated 'catch-up' day. The few species seen were:- Chondrostereum purpureuim; Auricularia auricula-judae; Clitocybe nebularis; Hypholoma fasciculare; Pluteus cervinus; Armillaria gallica; Agaricus sylvaticus; Mycena pseudocorticola; Mycena meliigena and Pholiota squarrosa.
 

30th October 2021 - Coombes Valley RSPB, Staffordshire - Another sold out walk with an extra two on top. The rain abated and left us with sun and many autumnal colours. We pootled for 3 hours and I even sold 3 Nettle Books. 29th October 2021 - Heaton Moor, Stockport, G. Manchester - My work mates back was playing up so I invited her to join me on a quick dinnertime wander.  We marched along and saw a few fungi with two specimens of Amanita muscaria; a nice gathering of Hygrocybe conica; a gathering of Cuphophyllus virgineus; some reliable old Gliophorus laetus, an army of Geoglossum fallax, a struggling Coprinus comatus and some fresh Bjerkandera adusta the best.
 
26th October 2021 - Parrs Wood Environmental Centre, Didsbury, G. Manchester - A walk with the young un's from work, pootling, making a video and having fun. 21st Oct 2021 - Heaton Moor, Stockport, G. Manchester - a different route on my dinner break today with the sun on my back and the fresh air bracing the framework.  Paxillus involutus; Amanita muscaria; Lactarius tabidus; Boletus edulis; Russula ochroleuca; Amanita rubescens and Clitopilus prunulus were all under one Silver Birch tree whilst Xylaria hypoxylon was clustered on an unidentified stump, Lacrymaria lacrymabunda burst through a garden lawn, Tubaria furfuracea was growing on a Cherry Tree root and Leccinum scabrum was holding court with another Silver Birch.  These gems make my roamings all the more pleasurable.
22nd October 2021 - Gorsey Bank, Stockport, Cheshire - The local park held a good colony of Mycena aetites; a few Laccaria laccata; several Cortinarius hemitrichus; some Armillaria gallica rising from some buried wood; Trametes gibbosa on an old trunk; some troops of Xylaria longipes on a fallen log and a single example of Inocybe geophylla var. lilacina.
 
20th October 2021 - River Mersey, Stockport, Cheshire - I came home from work via a different route and found Inocybe cincinnata var. cincinnata; Paxillus involutus; Helvella crispa; Inocybe geophylla; Lepiota cristata; Coprinellus micaceus and Xylaria hypoxylon.
 
20th October 2021 - Gorsey Bank, Stockport, Cheshire - The final leg of my walk home with Galerina marginata and Psilocybe cyanescens were a joy as always.

15th October 2021 - Gorsey Bank, Stockport, G. Manchester - 4 specimens of Amanita muscaria; several Paxillus inolutus and a lone Agrocybe erebia were nice to see in a local park.
 
15th October 2021 - Heaton Mersey/Heaton Moor, Stockport, G. Manchester - I walked home today and saw 24 sepcimens of Amanita muscaria; Rhizomarsmius on a Birch leaf and Hypholoma fasciculare growing from buried wood.

12th October 2021 - Heaton Moor, Stockport, G. Manchester - A walk in the dinner break, it is still very dry.  Tricholoma scalpturatum; Tubaria furfuracea; Golovinomyces sordidus; Bjerkandera adusta; Meripilus giganteus; Amanita muscaria and Laetiporus sulphureus were the only fungi seem.
 
11th October 2021 - Cheadle Heath Nomads, Stockport, G. Manchester - A single example of Lacrymaria lacrymabunda was noted whilst I was digging away.

5th October 2021 - Heaton Mersey, Stockport, G. Manchester - Walking home from work and one garden had a small gathering of Leccinum scabrum; another garden had some Hygrocybe conica on the lawn whilst closer to home one silly git was having all the area around his Silver Birch bricked over - and it was such a good spot for fungi. 17th September 2021 - Crosscanonby area, Cumbria - A cracking circular walk in more stunning weather. Fungi were not on the cerebral register but we did record Daedaleopsis confragosa and Erysiphe polygonii. I later confirmed Cuphophyllus pratensis var.pallida.

6th September 2021 - Cheadle Heath Nomads, Stockport, G. Manchester - Whilst gardening for wildlife at the local footy ground Scleroderma areolatum and Panaeolus foenisecii were found and identified after microscopy.
 
5th September 2021 - Hafod Wood, Wrexham - A good batch of Lactarius controversus was nice to see at an extremely dry area. A trail of Scleroderma verrucosum were also seen as well as the Rose Rust (Phragmidium mucronatum).

1st September 2021 - River Mersey, Stockport, G. Manchester - Scarletina Bolete (Neoboletus luridiformis) was now in fruit at the side of a path near some tree roots - it is a quite cracking species but a shame there seems to be another name change and it now goes under the tab of Neoboletus praestigiator. Call it what you will, it is still a beauty.

Manchester - Another dinnertime stroll, it is amazing what one can see whilst roaming the streets.  Today's fungi noted and recorded were:- Chlorophyllum brunneum; Rickenella fibula; Russula amoenolens; Chalciporus rubinellus; Amanita rubescens; Boletus edulis; Lactarius blennius; Rickenella swartzii; Clitopilus prunulus; Marasmius rotula; Schizophyllum commune; Meripilus giganeteus; Panaeolus foenisecii; Hypomyces chrysospermus and Erysiphe urtica. 
 
19th August 2021 - River Mersey, Stockport, G. Manchester - Inocybe flocculosa agg; Agaricus xanthodermus and Marasmius vaillantii were spied whilst pootling homeward after work.
 
19th August 2021 - Heaton Mersey, Stockport, G. Manchester - Scattered specimens of Lepiota cristata were noted alongside some Hazel trees with Paxillus involutus nearby and a troop of Tricholoma scalpturatum. A lone Leccinum scabrum was a first for the year.
 
19th August 2021 - Heaton Moor, Stockport, G. Manchester - A quick dinnertime stroll to the shops and on the way I noted a specimen of Hygrocybe conica, a cluster of Marasmius rotula and some fresh eruptions of Meripulis giganteus.
 
16th August 2021 - Cheadle Heath Nomads, Stockport, G. Manchester - A small clump of Coprinus comatus was spied after a morn of digging for nature.
 
15th August 2021 - Sherdley Park, St Helens, Merseyside - Pootling about the park after an Ice Cream was very much enjoyed. As well as a few bugs we saw the following fungi:- Hortiboletus rubellus; Pleurotus ostreatus; Datronia mollis; Ganoderma australe; Meripilus giganteus; Sawadaea bicornis; Lycoperdon excipuliforme; Mycena galopus; Claviceps purpurea; Laccaria laccata; Amanita rubescens; Erisyphe heraclei; Agrocybe praecox; Parasola plicatilis; Marasmius vaillantii; Inocybe rimosa; Agaricus campestris and Xerocomellus porosporus.
 
15th August 2021 - Pex Hill Nature Reserve, Widnes, Cheshire - Scleroderma citrinum; Psathyrella candolleana and Paxillus involutus were the only two fungi seen at a new place to us.
 
14th August 2021 - Airlift Hill, Warrington, Cheshire - A bug and flower walk and only one rust fungus seen, Coleosporium tussilaginis along with Claviceps purpurea..
 
12th August 2021 - River Mersey, Stockport, G.Manchester - Inocybe dulcamara was keyed out and confirmed to be back in its usual spot.
 
12th August 2021 - Heaton Mersey, Stockport, G. Manchester - Beneath a Copper Beech I found a small gathering of Hortiboletus engelii - they were nice things indeed.
 
10th August 2021 - Cheadle Heath, Stockport, G. Manchester - Tremella mesenterica was seen on an old log and Inocybe duriuscula was growing pitchside and keyed out using a couple of keys.

7th August 2021 - Parrs Wood, Stockport, G. Manchester - Panaeolus foenisecii was seen growing in an area of mown grass.
 
5th August 2021 - River Mersey, Stockport, G. Manchester - Puccinia pulverulenta and Scleroderma areolatum were the only 2 fungi seen walking home.

26th July 2021 - Marbury CP, Cheshire - Whilst leading a general bugs and blooms walk I added on a few fungal growths, these were:- Meripilus giganteus; Amanita fulva; Scleroderma citrinum; Stereum rugosum; Trametes versicolor; Fomitopsis betulina; Pluteus cervinus; Puccinia caricina var. ribesii-pendulae; Annulohypoxylon multiforme; Ganoderma australe; Phallus impudicus; Erysiphe heraclei; Chaetosphaerella phaeostroma and Microsphaeria alphitoides.
 
24th July 2021 - Haughton Dale NR, G. Manchester - Prior to a Non-League game, short walk with fine gent Rob Nicholson from the Denton Town committee. We saw a few fungi:- Auricularia auricula judae; Ganoderma australe; Hyhodontia sambuci; Daedaleopsis confragosa; Annulohypoxylon multiforme; Microsphaeria alphitoides; Sawadaea bicornis; Kretzchmaria deusta; Scleroderma areolatum and Puccinia veronicae.
 
19th July 2021 - Heaton Mersey, Stockport, G.Manchester - Hypomyces chrysospermus was seen destoying a Bolete - this fungus wastes no time getting stuck in.
 
18th July 2021 - Wheata Woods, Sheffield, South Yorkshire - A few fungi seen were:- Lactarius blennius; Russula nobilis; Heterobasidion annosum; Fomitopsis betulina; Hypocrea pulvinata; Fomes fomentarius; Russula velutipes; Frommeella tormentillae; Caloboletus calopus and the myxo Fuligo septica.
 
18th July 2021 - Greno Wood, Sheffield, South Yorkshire - and Calocera cornea were the 3 fungi seen on a sweltering walk.
 
11th July 2021 - Langsett Reservoir, South Yorkshire - Phallus impudicus; Suillus grevellei; Amanita rubescens; Hypholoma fasciculare; Heterobasidion annosum and the myxo Ceratiomyxa fruticulosa kept our peepers in the groove.
 

11th July 2021 - Rocher Plantation, South Yorkshire - A stretch of the pins, Mycena acicula was now peeping from the undergrowth and a small example of Polyporus leptocephalus was poking out from a Salix trunk. Phragmidium mucronatum was later identified via the scope.

 

11th July 2021 - Agden Bog/Reservoir area, South Yorkshire - Amanita fulva; Amanita rubescens; Amanita excelsa var. spissa; Rhytisma acerinum; Coprinellus micaceus; Parasola leiocephala; Phallus impudicus; Annulohypoxylon multiforme and the myxo Ceratiomyxa fruticulosa were now all giving hint of the pending fungal season.

4th July 2021 - Hic Bibi NR, Coppull, Lancashire - Daedaleopsis confragosa; Gymnosporangium clavariforme and Psathyrella candolleana were the only fungi seen during a lovely walk at a new reserve.
 
3rd July 2021 - Parrs Wood, Stockport, G. Manchester - A wonderfully perfect Inonotus hispidus was seen on a small Apple tree, Skeletocutis amorpha was on an old log; Gymnosporangium sabinae was on Pear leaves and Puccinia malvacearum was on the leaves of Hollyhock.
 
2nd July 2020 - Staveley NR, N. Yorkshire - Microsphaeria alphitoides; Sawadaea bicornis; Puccinia punctiformis; Triphragmium ulmariae; Ganoderma australe and Coprinellus disseminatus were the only fungi seen on a general wildlife walk.

16th June 2021 - Bewsey Woods, Warrington - Polyporus squamosus, Entomophthora muscae and Puccinia punctiformis were 2 fungi seen whilst looking for bugs and blooms.
12th June 2021 - Bewsey Woods, Warrington - A few fungi noted today whilst leading a walk were:- Triphragmium ulmariae; Monilinia johnsonii; Ganoderma australe; Stereum hirsutum; Puccinia pulverulenta; Puccinia magnusiana; Parasola auricoma; Phragmidium tuberculatum and Plasmopara nivea.

28th May 2021 - Middlewood Way, Stockport, G. Manchester - A carers wildlife walk, we noted a few fungi, these being:- Calocybe gambosa; Kretzschmaria deusta; Fomitopsis betulinus; Melampsora hypericorum; Coprinellus micaceus and Coprinellus disseminatus.
 
27th May 2021 - Heaton Moor, Stockport, G. Manchester - Polyporus squamosus was seen in a stage of rottenness, I felt the same way - it was just one of those days.

20th May 2021 - Heaton Mersey, Stockport, G. Manchester - Albugo tragopogonis was a new addition to the year list.
 
18th May 2021 - River Mersey, Stockport, G. Manchester - 49 specimens of Calocybe gambosa were seen along with a nice cluster of Agrocybe rivulosa. Coprinellus disseminatus was seen growing at the base of a Salix tree.
 
16th May 2021 - Withnell LNR, Chorley, Lancashire - Polyporus brumalis was still hanging on in an area with little fungi on show.
 
16th May 2021 - Blainscough Wood LNR, Coppull, Lancashire - Uromyces hyacinthi; Entyloma ficariae and Puccinia sessilis were the only fungi recorded at this tucked away area.
15th May 2021 - Denton Town, Tameside - Whilst attending another Non-League game I spied Peziza micropus and Parasola kuehneri.

18th April 2021 - River Dove, Doveridge, Staffordshire - Uromyces ficariae was on Lesser Celandine leaves and Schizophyllum commune was growing from a plastic sealed hay bale.
18th April 2021 - Hilton Gravel Pits, Derbyshire - Puccinia violae and Microbotryum violaceum were seen whilst wandering the twisting pathways of this tucked away reserve.
18th April 2021 - Willington Wetlands, Derbyshire - Uromyces dactylidis and Inonotus hispidus were the only fungi seen on a birding walk.
17th April 2021 - Cheadle Heath Nomads, Stockport, G. Manchester - Another new fungus for the year, Puccinia urticata was on Nettle and away from water too.
 
16th April 2021 - River Mersey, Stockport, G. Manchester - Puccinia pulverulenta was now seen on the leaves of Willowherb - it keeps the cranial juices ticking.
 
11th April 2021 - Cromford Canal, Cromford, Derbyshire - Uromyces dactylidis was seen and added to the annual fungi tally.

8th April 2021 - River Mersey, Stockport, G. Manchester - A walk home, Puccinia aegopodii and Cumminsiella mirabilissima were 2 new fungi for the annual list.

 
31st March 2021 - The Heatons Centre, Stockport, G. Manchester - Puccinia lapsanae; Puccinia distincta and Seifertia azalea were 3 fungi seen in the works garden.
 
30th March 2021 - Heaton Moor, Stockport, G. Manchester - Reticularia lycoperdon was seen on an old tree stump.
 
29th March 2021 - Cheadle Heath Nomads, Stockport, G. Manchester - Coprinellus micaceus and Coprinellus disseminatus were both seen growing from buried wood.
 

28th March 2021 - Styal CP, Cheshire - A 2 hour walk, taking in the scenery and stretching the legs. A few fungi were recorded, these being:- Lachnum virgineum; Botryobasidium aureum; Hypomyces rosellus; Xanthoriicola physciae; Lachnella alboviolascens; Pleurotus ostreatus; Kretzschmaria deusta; Peziza micropus; Coprinellus disseminatus; Dacrymyces stillatus and Seifertia azalea.

We also saw the myxomycete Reticularia lycoperdon and after a week of looking at a twing Helminthosporium velutinum was nailed.

23rd March 2021 - Nob End, Bolton, G. Manchester - Red and orange examples of Sarcoscypha austriaca were noted along with Flammulina velutipes; Uromyces muscari and Pleurotus ostreatus.

Metatrichia floriformis was confirmed after much debate and being fooled by a photo of the spore mass.

 
23rd March 2021 - Elton Reservoir, Bury, G. Manchester - Puccinia lapsanae was seen for the first time this year.
 

22nd March 2021 - Cheadle Heath Nomads, Stockport, G. Manchester - A morn spent tidying nup and building brash piles. Fungi noted were:- Coprinopsis atramentaria; Coprinellus micaceus; Auricularia auricula-judae; Stereum hirsutum; Xylaria carpophila; Puccinia distincta; Hypoxylon petriniae; Entyloma ficaria; Uromyces muscari; Cylindrobasidum laeve; Nectria cinnabarina; Calloria neglecta and Exidia nucleata.

Trichia contorta was confirmed after microscopy and on-line help.

 
21st March 2021 - Poynton Pool area, Stockport, Cheshire - A birding wander but we did see Peniophora incarnata and an old Bovista nigrescens.

14th March 2021 - Haughton Dale NR, G. Manchester - A good wander with the missus before the rain fell. Cylindrobasidium laeve; Tremella mesenterica; Ganoderma applanatum; Vuilleminia coryli; Stereum sanguinolentum; Exidia glandulosa; Exidia plana and Lachnum apala were named and shamed with help needed via kind and helpful asco-man Peter Roberts to name Appendiculella calostroma and Dictyosporium toruloides.

After a week waiting for spores to develop I added Colpoma quercinum as well. Even longer was the spore production by Lachnellula occidentalis - I got there in the end.

Manchester - An early morning bike ride, fungi seen were:- Peniophora lycii; Peniophora quercina; Cylindrobasidium laeve; Phragmocephala atra; Leptosphaeria acuta; Stictis stellata; Pleurotus ostreatus; Exidia plana; Ganoderma applanatum; Dialonectria episphaeria and Lachnella alboviolascens.
 
8th March 2021 - Abney Hall, Stockport, G. Manchester - Peniophora lycii and Kretzschmaria deusta were just 2 fungi seen as I cycled homeward.

15th February 2021 - Haughton Dale NR/Hulme Wood, G. Manchester - A very early morning walk, a couple of old Inonotus hispidus were seen as well as some Hypoxylon fuscum - it keeps the eye in.
 

13th February 2021 - Gatley Carrs, Stockport, G. Manchester - A short walk with the wind biting at the privates. Botryobasidium aureum; Lachnum virgineum; Ruzenia spermoides and Chaetosphaerella phaeostroma were the few fungi seen.

 
11th February 2021 - Cheadle Heath, Stockport, G. Manchester - Several upright boards used as a fence were sporting numerous examples of Melanotus horizontalis.
 
4th February 2021 - Ladybrook Cycleway, Stockport, G. Manchester - A quick pootle on the bike, it was nice to find a new patch of Terana caerulea - a lovely encrusting growth. Also listed after microscopy were:- Calloria neglecta; Crepidotus cesatii; Sarcoscypha austriaca; Leptosphaeria doliolum and Arthrinium phaeospermum. Ocellaria ocellata was added with Peter Thompson coming to the rescue - nice one mate.
 
31st January 2021 - Reddish Vale CP, Stockport, G. Manchester - A few fungus recorded today were:- Trametes gibbosa; Flammulina velutipes; Xylaria longipes; Exidia glandulosa; Xylaria carpophila; Sarcoscypha austriaca; Marchandiomyces aurantiacus and Daldinia fissa.
 
29th January 2021 - River Mersey, Stockport, G. Manchester - Merismodes anomala and Mycena tenerrima were seen under a Salix log and Tubaria furfuracea was doing well on a nearby woodchip pile. Parorbiliopsis minuta was added after discussions with the ever knowledgeable asco-man Peter Thompson.
 
24th January 2021 - Northenden, G. Manchester - Whilst continuing our long walk we also added a new rust fungus to the annual tally, Melampsora hypericorum.
 

24th January 2021 - Didsbury Gold Course, G. Manchester - A handful of fungi were seen as we indulged in a lengthy walk, these being:- Athelia arachnoidea; Illosporiopsis christiansenii; Rhodocollybia butyracea; Leptosphaeria acuta; Calloria neglecta and Arrhenia retiruga. Truncatella angustata was a lovely extra that completely threw me, thank goodness Mr Thompson of the Ascomycetes book is kind enough to help - great stuff.

 
22nd January 2021 - River Mersey, Stockport, G. Manchester - Puccinia veronicae was still showing well on the leaves of Wood Speedwell.
 
17th January 2021 - Cheadle Hulme Golf Club, Stockport, G. Manchester - It was nice to see Trametes versicolor and Trametes hirusta and see the difference in the field and then confirm with microscopy later on. Plagiostoma inclinatum was also later identified on the scope.
 
17th January 2021 - Brookfields Park, Stockport, G. Manchester - Only 1 new fungus for the year, Sphaeropsis sapinea.
 
16th January 2021 - Cringle Park, Levenshulme, G. Manchester - After dropping the Mother-in-Laws' shopping off me and the missus had a quick walk around this local park. Mycena galericulata; Sarcomyxa serotina; Flammulina velutipes; Ascocoryne sarcoides; Crepidotus mollis and Stereum rugosum were a few fungi seen on a very chilly pootle. Marchandiomyces aurantiacus was seen on a lichen still to be identified.
 
15th January 2021 - Heaton Moor, Stockport, G. Manchester - Arrhenia rickenii and Geoglossum fallax were 2 new fungi for the year.
 
15th January 2021 - River Mersey, Stockport, G. Manchester - Leptosphaeria purpurea was seen today on Willowherb stems.
 

14th January 2021 - River Mersey, Stockport, G. Manchester - A few fungi seen were Stictis stellata; Daldinia fissa; Clavulina rugosa and Lachnum apala. After consultation with Asco-Man Peter Thompson Valsa cypri and Propolis farinosa were added to the small tally as well as the 5th British record of Didymella macrospora.

 
12th January 2021 - Heaton Moor, Stockport, G. Manchester - 2 more fungi for the year list, Cordyceps militaris and some stonking Otidea onotica.
 
11th January 2021 - Abney Hall, Stockport, G. Manchester - Walking through this area and pushing the bike so as to avoid a full on mud-splattering. I noted a few micro fungi and duly examined along with a couple of Oysterlings, the result was:- Crepidotus versutus; Crepidotus cesatii; Stictis stellata; Trichopezizella nidulus and Lachnella alboviolascens. I also ID'd Mensularia radiata and Clavulinopsis corniculata.
 
11th January 2021 - Cheadle Heath - Parrs Wood, Stockport, G. Manchester - Continuing my cycle jourmney and a gathering of Cyathus striatus were now looking old but a few were still holding their eggs.
 
11th January 2021 - River Mersey, Stockport, G. Manchester - Cycling along and Hypocrea pulvinata was in good condition on an old Birch Polypore I discarded last year.
 
10th January 2021 - Gatley Carrs, Stockport, G. Manchester - A walk with with missus from the front door to this Nature Reserve and back again. A few fungi noted were:- Macroconia leptosphaeriae; Leptosphaera doliolum; Crepidotus cesatii; Dendryphion comosum; Phragmocephala atra; Calycina herbarum; Crocicreas cyathoideum; Datronia mollis; Phloeomana speirea; Hymenochaete rubiginosa; Geastrum triplex and Stereum subtomentosum.
 
10th January 2021 - Cheadle Heath, Stockport, G. Manchester - Pleurotus ostreatus was seen for the first time this year as well as Puccinia lagenophorae.
 

9th January 2021 - Gorton Reservoirs, Reddish, G. Manchester - A birding walk but a handful of fungi seen, these being:- Peniophora quercina; Tremella mesenterica; Exidia glandulosa; Stereum subtomentosum; Phlebia radiata; Daldinia concentrica; Leptosphaera acuta; Crepidotus cesatii; Phragmocephala atra and Auricularia mesenterica.

 
8th January 2021 - Alexander Park, Stockport, G. Manchester - A short walk with the missus, a few new fungi for the year were:- Coleroa robertiani; Trochila ilicina; Phacidium multivalve; Uromyces muscari and Albugo candida.
 
7th January 2021 - Bramhall Park, Stockport, G. Manchester - An early morning cycle and mucky again. Only a few fungi were spied as I had my eye on my feathered friends. What I did see though was:- Tremella foliacea; Stereum subtomentosum; Puccinia caricina var. ribesii-pendulae; Hypholoma fasciculare; Xylaria longipes; Fomitopsis betulina and Hypoxylon fragiforme.
 
6th January 2021 - Bruntwood Park, Stockport, G. Manchester - A look at the local birds, it was frozen and fungi were not playing ball. New for the year though were the common Vulleminia comedens; Seifertia azalea and Cylindrobasidium laeve.
 
5th January 2021 - Fletcher Moss, Didsbury, G. Manchester - Another bike ride and another mud covered outcome. The few fungi noted were:- Macroconia leptosphaeriae; Leptosphaeria doliolum; Trichaptum abietinum; Heterobasidion annosum; Xylaria carpophila; Kuehneromyces mutabilis; Mycena tenerrima; Ganoderma australe; Diaporthe samaricola; Phoma samararum; Chaetosphaerella phaeostroma and Hypoxylon petriniae.
 
4th January 2021 - Sale WP, G. Manchester - A few new fungi for the year and the odd fave were:- Sarcoscypha austriaca; Rosellinia mammiformis; Phellinus ingniarius; Datronmia mollis; Trametes gibbosa; Coprinellus micaceus; Crepidotus mollis; Sarcomyxa serotina; Calloria neglecta; Polyporus leptocephalus; Kuehneromyces mutabilis; Phloeomana speirea; Mycena meliigena; Annulohypoxylon multiforme; Pluteus romellii; Lycoperdon pyriforme; Ascocoryne cylichnium; Crepidotus cesatii; Bisporella sulfurina; Mycena arcangeliana and Scutellinia crinita.
 

3rd January 2021 - Elton Reservoir, Bury, G. Manchester - A few fungi were seen on a birding wander, these were:- Flammulina velutipes; Hypholoma fasciculare; Bovista nigrescens; Mycena galericulata; Milesina murariae; Hyphodontia sambuci; Phragmidium violaceum; Mycena filopes; Galerina vittiformis; Dacrymyces stillatus; Illosporiopsis christiansenii; Crepidotus cesatii and Xanthoriicola physciae.

 
2nd January 2021 - Cheadle Heath - River Mersey - Abney Hall, Stockport, G. Manchester - A circular walk to stretch the legs, we saw a few new fungi for the year:- Psathyrella multipedata; Cuphophyllus virgineus; Laccaria laccata; Daldinia concentrica; Ganoderma australe; Coprinellus micaceus; Bjerkandera adusta; Chondrostereum purpureum and Hypholoma fasciculare.
 
1st January 2021 - Astley and Chat Mosses, Irlam, G. Manchester - A birding walk but the chance was taken to jot down the first few fungal sightings of the year. The small list was made up of:- Polyporus leptocephalus; Agaricus sylvaticus; Crepidotus cesatii; Trametes versicolor; Rhytisma acerinum; Xylaria carpophila; Scleroderma citrinum; Flammulina velutipes; Tremella foliacea; Phlebia radiata; Nectria cinnabarina; Exidia nucleata; Xylaria hypoxylon; Stereum hirsutum; Clitocybe fragrans; Auricularia auricula-judae; Taphrina betulina; Claviceps purpurea; Rhopographus filicinus; Fomitopsis betulina and Daedaleopsis confragosa.
