ADULT: Wingspan 30 - 35mm. Pale cream in appearance with 3 wavy cross-lines with the latter having a distinct kink near the leading edge. The wings seem to be peppered with black markings and appear long and slightly hooked. There are 2 forms, these being banded and non-banded as shown in fig 1. The banded form is more frequent down south. CHRYSALIS: Pupates in leaf litter. LARVA: Brown and tapering towards the front. Located overwintering in this stage or on foodplants such as bedstraws, dandelions and docks. BEHAVIOUR: Attracted to light sometimes in large numbers. HABITAT: Woodland, gardens, hedgerows, parks and urban areas. FLIGHT PERIOD: Single brooded. June to August. STATUS: Resident. Common. |
