ADULT: Wingspan - 35 - 43mm. An attractive moth when caught fresh with a luscious mix of chestnuts, greys and black. The kidney and orbicular marks are pale and stand out against the wide, brown crossband. CHRYSALIS: Overwinters as a pupa. LARVA: Feeds on Broom and Dyer's Greenweed. BEHAVIOUR: Attracted to light and sugar. HABITAT: Heathland. FLIGHT PERIOD: Single brooded. May to July. STATUS: Common resident in Southern Britain. |
