ADULT: Wingspan - 36 - 42mm. An ornate moth with the ground colour grey to dark-brown covered with various black lines and streaks. The crossbands are jagged and the wings in general are fairly narrow. CHRYSALIS: N/A. LARVA: Over winters in this stage and feeds on Sea Campion, Wood Sage and Sorrel. BEHAVIOUR: Attracted to light and sugary substances. HABITAT: Coastal. FLIGHT PERIOD: Single brooded from August to October. STATUS: Common resident in Southern Britain. |
