ADULT: Wingspan 23 to 28mm. A smart moth also known as the 'Olive Pyralid Moth' or the 'Tabby Knot-Horn'.  The forewing is creamy-brown and marked with a series of darker cross-bands.  The hindwings are mainly white with a thin brown border. LARVA: The larva reaches 25mm in length and is a light green colour. Its head and thorax are black. The larvae burrow into the bark of the Ash tree which can result in the death of the tree. BEHAVIOUR: Attracted to light. HABITAT: Gardens, parks and woodland areas where the foodplant is present.  FLIGHT PERIOD: July and August. STATUS: A local species primarily found in the southern half of Britain.
