ADULT: Wingspan - 35 - 50mm. A large moth with the main diagnostic feature being the black dart that extends from the kidney-mark. The colouring of this moth is variable with some specimens being very dark indeed. CHRYSALIS: N/A. LARVA: Greenish-grey with an indistinct dorsal lin Underparts pale grey. BEHAVIOUR: Attracted to light. HABITAT: Coastal areas but can be seen anywhere. FLIGHT PERIOD: Seen anytime between March and October. STATUS: Regular migrant and in some years appearing in mass numbers. |
