BLOXWORTH SNOUT |
HYPENA OBSITALIS |
Fig 1 |
ADULT: Wingspan 25-38mm. This recent colonist is quite distinctive with a forewing pattern that is vague yet paradoxically obvious. The darker patches on the forewing, the jagged white crossline and the general shape should all point to this species. A darker form however needs slightly more attention. CHRYSALIS: Pupates in leaves of foodplant. LARVA: Feeds on Pellitory of the Wall. BEHAVIOUR: Attracted to light. HABITAT: Strictly coastal areas. FLIGHT PERIOD: Double brooded. July and August and again September and October. STATUS: Resident in far south. Uncommon. |
